Ius Mortis | Elixir

Ius mortis, translated from latin can be defined as “elixir of Death”. elixir has roots in the practice of alchemy; it was used in the Middle Ages as the word for a substance believed to be capable of changing base metals into gold. It’s later use for a drug purported to prolong one’s life led to its application in the names of medicines of mostly questionable effectiveness. For the artist’s purposes, the Toxikon elixir, “Ius Mortis” is an object of power. Suder, draws attention to the beautiful & toxic remnants of the wildlife inhabitants of Bombay Beach.

This is all that remains of their existence.
